Winter has never been kind to my skin. Think scaly dry skin that flakes off (ugh).
In the past I would slather on tons of store bought lotion, but once I discovered what was in those products I knew I had to find something else.
Many popular brands of personal care products contain some pretty toxic ingredients like parabens, phthalates, and formaldehyde. None of which you want seeping into your skin. Everything you put ON your skin goes INTO your body.

I decided to try and make my own lotion in the form of a Peppermint Body Butter. At first, this seemed like it would take a crazy amount of time to do, but it actually wasn’t difficult at all.
Plus the kids love to get involved, which is always fun (well mostly fun, until they get off track and just want to make a mess). This recipe makes a rich and thick body butter that really locks the moisture into the skin.

Whipped Peppermint Body Butter
Ingredients
- 3/4 Cup Shea Butter (purchased from Amazon)
- 1/4 Cup Coconut Oil (purchased from Costco)
- Peppermint Essential Oil (2-8 drops depending on how pepperminty you want it to be).
Directions
Cleaning up the whisk attachment and bowl was a little tricky. I found that wiping out as much as possible with a paper towel before washing with soap and water really helped.
The Peppermint Body Butter is slightly greasy but it makes my skin feel great once absorbed.
Plus it smells so amazing. It is a great wintery scent that really wakes you up! The soothing menthol in the peppermint oil makes it good for after workout rub downs too.
